Tata Electronics signs deal with ASML: India's semiconductor ambition takes a new leap
Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, has signed an agreement with Dutch tech giant ASML to build India’s first semiconductor fab, marking a critical step in New Delhi’s push for tech self-reliance and AI competitiveness. The $11 billion plant in Dholera, Gujarat, will produce chips for automotive, mobile, and AI applications, with completion expected by 2028. Experts hail it as one of the most important semiconductor developments for India in recent years, while also noting challenges around infrastructure and labor skills.
