Bangladesh Foreign Minister elected President of UN General Assembly with 99 votes
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has been elected President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, winning 99 votes out of 190 valid ballots in a secret ballot on November 12. He defeated Cyprus Ambassador Andreas Kakouris by just 8 votes. His one-year term begins September 8, 2026, and overlaps with the selection of the next UN Secretary-General.
