Democrats won control of both the House and the Senate in the 2026 US midterm elections, with at least 240 House seats and 54 Senate seats as vote counting continued. About 122.7 million ballots were tallied, a turnout of roughly 48.8 percent of eligible voters — the second-highest midterm turnout in more than a century. The results delivered several historic firsts and stripped President Donald Trump's Republicans of their congressional majorities.
