Accra Conference Adopts Global Framework for Reparatory Justice for Victims of Slave Trade
A summit in Accra, Ghana, has approved an 18-point strategic roadmap on reparatory justice, including fair compensation for people of African descent and measures to address debt burdens. The framework was adopted at a three-day conference titled 'Next Steps,' the first major meeting since a historic UN resolution recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as the most serious crime against humanity. The document calls for the return of cultural property, debt relief, and the establishment of three global councils on reparatory justice and restitution.
