Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the 2026 US midterm elections, pulling off surprising victories in Republican strongholds including Texas and South Carolina. Historic firsts included Abdul El-Sayed becoming the first Muslim elected to the US Senate and Annie Andrews becoming South Carolina's first elected female senator.
