AI Deepfakes Invade US Midterms: Fake Ads Flood the Information Space
US midterm campaigns are being flooded with AI-generated deepfake ads that put words and images into candidates' mouths, confusing voters and blurring the line between real and fake. Candidates and their supporters have spent more than $80 million on over 164 AI-based ads, with Republicans behind 80 percent of them, while 31 states have passed labeling laws and no federal rule exists.
