Rocket launcher deal illustrates deepening Russia-Iran relations
Russia agreed in 2024 to supply Iran with 90 advanced missile launchers designed to fire the LMUR guided missile used on Mi-28 attack helicopters, according to a Financial Times report citing documents from a Russian defence manufacturer. The disclosure came as top Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei met Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss expanding the strategic partnership treaty signed in January 2025. Analysts say Moscow is deepening military ties with Tehran while trying to avoid disrupting relations with the US and other Middle Eastern states.
