Venezuelan inmates occupy prison rooftop, burn mattresses to protest abuse

Hundreds of inmates at Barinas prison in western Venezuela protested on the roof, burning mattresses and displaying 'SOS' banners, accusing guards of shooting peaceful demonstrators. The Venezuelan Prison Observatory reported that about 1,300 inmates joined a hunger strike, while relatives outside clashed with National Guard troops demanding the director's removal.
