Peruvian cardinal calls $150m compensation deal for 1,300 people a 'historic milestone'
Cardinal Pedro Barreto, who faced death threats over nearly two decades of campaigning against a US mining company in the Andes, has called a $150m out-of-court settlement for more than 1,000 people exposed to lead poisoning a 'historic milestone'. The settlement ends one of the longest civil cases against a multinational over cross-border pollution, with each plaintiff set to receive at least $100,000.
