Syrians see Israel as biggest regional threat, followed by Iran: Survey
A nationwide Arab Opinion Index for Syria 2026 survey found that 61 percent of Syrians name Israel as the main threat to their country, with Iran a distant second at 20 percent, followed by Turkiye (6 percent) and the US (5 percent). Some 97 percent said Israel threatens Middle East security and stability, up from 78 percent a year earlier, while 80 percent oppose recognising Israel. The poll, by the Doha-based Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Arab Center for Contemporary Syria Studies, also shows rising support for democracy and political pluralism.
