Abbas Postpones Palestinian Legislative Elections to September 2027
President Mahmoud Abbas has signed a decree postponing Palestinian Legislative Council elections, originally set for late November, and merging them with the presidential vote on September 11, 2027. The PLO Executive Committee cited unfavorable conditions in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, including Israeli restrictions and withheld tax revenues. The delay spares the veteran leadership a ballot-box challenge but risks further eroding the Palestinian Authority's credibility.
