Greenland Establishes Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Controversial Forced Birth Control Program
Greenland is forming a truth and reconciliation commission over a decades-long forced birth control program targeting Inuit women and girls, after expert reports disagreed on whether it constituted genocide. The program, which ran from the 1960s to the 1990s, affected at least 4,000 people, often without consent. Denmark has apologized and agreed to compensation of up to $46,758 per victim.
