Senegal PM Accuses West of Imposing Homosexuality, Defends Anti-LGBTQ Crackdown
Senegal Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has accused Western countries of trying to impose homosexuality on his nation, while defending new laws that increase prison sentences for same-sex relations to 10 years. Human rights groups and the UN have condemned the legislation, describing it as discriminatory and harmful to LGBTQ individuals. Senegal is among a growing number of African countries tightening anti-LGBTQ laws, with over half of the 65 countries criminalizing same-sex relations located on the continent.
