Former German intelligence chief August Hanning arrested on treason charges
August Hanning, who led Germany's BND from 1998 to 2005, has been arrested on suspicion of treasonous espionage, obtaining state secrets and conspiracy to commit treason. Prosecutors say he passed some 2,000 classified documents, some involving Iran's nuclear program and the Russian military, to foreign intelligence contacts after leaving office.
