Luigi Mangione to Use Mental Health Defense in Health Executive Murder Case
Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will argue he suffered from extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the shooting to seek a reduced charge. Judge Gregory Carro announced the defense strategy on March 19, noting that New York state law allows such a plea to potentially reduce murder to manslaughter. Mangione faces state trial on September 8 and federal trial on October 13.
