On May 19, a delegation of sumo wrestlers led by yokozuna Hoshoryu departed from Haneda Airport in Tokyo for Paris to participate in a two-day exhibition tournament this weekend.
The event aims to introduce Japan's traditional martial art to European audiences. Leading wrestlers, including yokozuna and ozeki, will demonstrate traditional techniques and hold exhibition matches.
This marks the first time in years that high-ranking sumo wrestlers have traveled to France for an exhibition, reflecting the Japan Sumo Association's efforts to promote the sport internationally. Paris was chosen as the destination due to its status as a major cultural and tourism hub, attracting a wide international audience.
