A gunman opened fire at a high school in Zamboanga City, southern Philippines, killing at least two people, according to local authorities.
Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso said on DZMM radio on the morning of August 16 that both victims were students and one of them was the shooter. The scene was identified as Ateneo de Zamboanga High School.
Regional police spokesperson Shellamie Chang said officers were deployed to cordon off the school campus, but could not provide further details about the incident.
According to witnesses and reporters at the scene, the suspect was a seventh-grade student who opened fire inside the classroom. The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
