Multiple Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has signed a new contract with Red Bull Racing that runs until the end of 2030, the team confirmed officially. This ends speculation about his future in the sport.
“Four more years. We are delighted to announce that Max has signed a contract extension with the team until the end of 2030,” Red Bull posted on social media platform X on Thursday (Aug 28).
The news came as preparations were underway for Verstappen's home race in the Netherlands this Sunday at Zandvoort, exciting thousands of fans in orange.
Verstappen is one of the most successful drivers in Formula 1 history, dominating the championship with four consecutive titles since 2021. However, this season has been less successful for him, sitting sixth in the drivers' standings and having not won a Grand Prix in the first half of the season.
“This commitment is not just about continuing an extraordinary alliance,” the team said in a statement. “It is a powerful testament to mutual trust and ambition – and a joint decision to shape the future together.”
Red Bull's car has been less competitive this year, leading many to question whether the Dutch driver would move to another team or leave Formula 1 entirely. But Verstappen said he wants to bring the team back to winning ways.
“We have the best people, and I am really looking forward to continuing working with everyone to get back to the front,” he said.
The news adds extra drama to the final edition of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. Verstappen has been unbeaten on his home track, winning the first three races since the event returned to the calendar in 2021. But in the past two years, he has been chasing McLaren, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri winning the last two races.
Verstappen is expected to wear a special helmet inspired by the famous blue Delft pottery for the occasion. Organizers have decided not to continue hosting the race at Zandvoort, partly because of uncertainties about Verstappen's future, given his importance to the event's popularity.
“I have always said that the team is like my second family, and I feel very comfortable here,” Verstappen said. “I came to the team hoping to win. What we have achieved together is truly amazing.”
