Ugandan authorities have raised the alert level after a patient died of Ebola, with tests showing the virus strain is linked to an ongoing outbreak in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
The death was reported in a border area, raising concerns about cross-border transmission. Uganda has activated emergency response measures, including enhanced health surveillance at border points and deployment of rapid response teams.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is working closely with Uganda to prevent further spread. This is the first time Uganda has recorded an Ebola case directly connected to the DR Congo outbreak since the disease re-emerged in the region.
Health officials are urging the public to follow prevention measures, such as frequent hand washing and avoiding contact with symptomatic individuals, while affirming that the health system is prepared for any scenario.
