UEFA has issued a statement reaffirming that its 55 member associations remain committed to boycotting FIFA tournaments, stressing that world football's governing body has yet to meet the key conditions for their return.
Last week, UEFA voted unanimously to withdraw from all FIFA events after President Gianni Infantino unveiled plans to seek partners for minority stake sales in the World Cup and other competitions.
Following mounting pressure from the football community, Infantino later withdrew the proposal and received backing from FIFA's leadership at a meeting in Morocco on Wednesday.
However, UEFA argues that scrapping the stake sale plan is not the only condition for resuming cooperation with FIFA.
“UEFA's member associations have set out the conditions attached to non-participation in FIFA tournaments,” the UEFA statement said. “First, the proposal to sell off major tournaments must be withdrawn. Second, there must be a commitment that efforts to distort this sport will never recur.”
“These conditions have not been met. Furthermore, UEFA made clear in its statement on Saturday that we have lost confidence in Gianni Infantino's presidency. That view remains unchanged.”
“The fact that some people who work for the FIFA President—whose careers depend on his favor—agree with him changes nothing,” the statement added.
