Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed that his long-awaited fight against fellow countryman Anthony Joshua will take place at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City, USA.
An exact date for the Joshua-Fury clash – one of the biggest bouts in British boxing history – has not yet been announced, but the fight is expected to be held in November after both fighters signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority.
“A great place, a great venue, a great fight,” Fury wrote on Instagram. Fury called New York the “land of opportunity,” but fans criticized him in the comments, questioning why an all-British fight was being held in the US instead of venues like Wembley Stadium in the UK.
Fury, who turned 38 in August, has won 36 professional fights and suffered only two defeats, both against Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He announced his return to the ring in January, after retiring in December 2024 following his loss to Usyk in a bout for three of the four major world titles.
Joshua and Fury were unable to reach an agreement in 2021, and the planned showdown fell through after a US judge ruled that Fury had to face Deontay Wilder in a third fight instead.
During his preparation for the clash with Joshua, Fury forced Polish boxer Mariusz Wach to retire in a sparring session in July, which took place in front of around 1,500 spectators at the Max Muay Thai arena in Pattaya, Thailand.
