Brigadier General Ahmad Gharaati, commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Hormozgan province, said on February 10 that security in the Persian Gulf is ensured based on Iran's internal strength, not by external forces.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Iran's National Day, Gharaati emphasized: "The security of the Persian Gulf stems from internal strength, not from the presence of extra-regional forces." He also highlighted the IRGC's role in protecting strategic sea routes and Iran's islands in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to General Gharaati, the high combat readiness of Iran's armed forces is a key factor in maintaining regional stability. He also warned of potential threats and vowed a strong response to any violation of sovereignty.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and Western countries over its nuclear program and military activities in the region. Iran has repeatedly asserted that Persian Gulf security is the responsibility of regional countries, without the need for outside intervention.
