Lebanese media has recently asserted that Iran has become a global power, marking a significant shift in regional and global geopolitical dynamics.
According to Lebanese sources, Iran’s ascent is evident not only in its military and technological capabilities but also in the political, economic, and cultural influence it has cultivated over recent decades. Iran now plays a role in numerous regional issues—from Syria and Yemen to Lebanon—through its allies and proxy forces.
Lebanese analysts note that Iran has overcome international sanctions to develop its missile and nuclear programs while expanding diplomatic ties with countries worldwide, including Russia and China. This has granted Tehran a stronger negotiating position in international talks, particularly on the nuclear issue.
However, this view has drawn criticism from international observers, who argue that while Iran wields considerable influence, labeling it a ‘world power’ may be an exaggeration—especially when compared to traditional powers like the United States, Russia, or China. Iran still faces internal economic and social challenges due to prolonged sanctions.
Nonetheless, Lebanese media emphasizes that Iran has demonstrated its ability to maintain and extend its influence amid the increasingly complex Middle East, and this merits recognition as an emerging power on the global stage.
