China Deploys Aircraft Carrier Liaoning to Western Pacific

China's navy confirmed on October 8 that it has dispatched the aircraft carrier Liaoning to waters in the Western Pacific for training. According to a Chinese statement, the deployment is part of a prearranged "annual training plan."

The Liaoning is one of China's three existing aircraft carriers. The move comes as the country's naval activity in the region continues to be closely monitored.

The announcement coincided with news concerning China-U.S. relations, including the United States suspending professional exchange programs across China following harassment allegations, according to KYODO NEWS on October 9, 2026.
