U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held the final day of talks during a state visit in Beijing. The meetings took place as the world’s two largest economies sought to narrow differences on trade and regional security.
According to international media reports, discussions centered on a phase-one trade deal, which both sides had agreed upon in principle since late 2019. Key topics included intellectual property protection, financial market opening, and reducing the U.S. trade deficit with China.
President Trump’s visit to China took place from November 8–10, 2017, as part of a 12-day tour of Asia. It was Trump’s first official visit to China since assuming office in January 2017.
Analysts noted that the outcome of these talks would significantly impact U.S.-China bilateral relations, which have been strained over trade and geopolitical issues.
