Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian received Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Tehran, according to IRNA.
The meeting took place as both sides underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields. Discussions focused on regional matters, including the situation in Gaza and the latest developments in the Middle East.
The Qatari PM conveyed a message from Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to President Pezeshkian, emphasizing the desire to advance ties between the two nations. In response, President Pezeshkian praised Qatar's role in regional diplomatic efforts and expressed readiness to expand cooperation with Doha.
This is the Qatari PM's first visit to Tehran since Pezeshkian took office in July. The visit comes amid heightened Middle East tensions, particularly after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which Iran has blamed on Israel.
Earlier, President Pezeshkian had held phone calls with Qatar's Emir and PM to discuss bilateral and regional issues. Qatar, serving as a mediator in the Middle East, has been actively promoting diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and Israel.
