Gunshots were heard near the US consulate in Toronto, Canada, early Monday morning local time, but no one was injured, according to a statement from Toronto police. This is the second shooting near the diplomatic compound in four months.
Toronto police said on social media X that "officers heard gunshots in the area" and "a white sedan fled the scene." The area was cordoned off, and shell casings were found. No injuries have been reported, and no suspect has been identified.
The US consulate thanked police for their swift response to Monday's shooting.
Earlier, on March 10, two men opened fire on the US consulate in an incident police described as a "national security matter," leading to increased security for US and Israeli diplomatic buildings in the Canadian city as the Middle East conflict escalated.
Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested in June as part of the investigation into that shooting. Police said the individuals were recruited to carry out acts of violence but provided no further details.
Police also said they are investigating shootings with similar patterns, such as a shooting at a Toronto synagogue on March 2.
