Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi visited Kumamoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan on Monday to assess the situation following a powerful earthquake that struck the region nearly a week ago. The trip is aimed at directly understanding local difficulties and requests, particularly regarding improving living conditions for evacuees and accelerating the restoration of damaged infrastructure.
According to Kyodo News, the magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit southwestern Japan, killing at least one person and leaving dozens others reportedly injured. The event caused significant physical damage and severely affected the lives of residents in the area.
During the working visit, Prime Minister Takaichi is expected to tour heavily affected areas, meet local leaders, and hear directly from residents and rescue teams. Stabilizing housing for families living in evacuation centers and ensuring essential services such as electricity, water, and communications are restored promptly are top priorities for both central and local governments.
The Japanese government has mobilized necessary resources to support Kumamoto Prefecture in recovery efforts, while urging close coordination among ministries to speed up reconstruction and stabilize the lives of disaster-affected residents.
