In a recent statement, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that boosting trade relations with Iran is one of the top priorities of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Speaking at a conference on regional cooperation, Mishustin stressed the importance of strengthening economic connectivity between EAEU member states and Tehran to tap market potential and boost bilateral goods flows.
According to him, the EAEU and Iran have made significant progress in negotiations on a comprehensive free trade agreement, with expectations of creating a favorable legal framework for businesses on both sides. Currently, an interim agreement is in effect, but finalizing the formal deal would serve as a basis for expanding the range of goods and reducing tariff barriers.
The Russian prime minister also noted that diversifying trade routes and partners is a key strategy amid global economic volatility. He reaffirmed Russia's commitment, as a key EAEU member, to advancing cooperation initiatives with Iran across sectors from energy and agriculture to transport and logistics.
The EAEU is an economic union comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. Strengthening ties with Iran is seen as part of the bloc's broader efforts to extend its economic influence into the Middle East and Asia while creating new supply chains amid shifting global trade patterns.
