Nuri Rocket's Fifth Launch Marks South Korea's Shift Toward an Integrated Space Industry

The successful launch of the Nuri rocket, which placed five small satellites into orbit on Wednesday, marks a major step toward South Korea's first domestic satellite constellation and further expands the role of the private sector in space development, according to experts.

Observers view the event as a milestone showing that South Korea is shifting from isolated launch efforts to building an integrated space industry, in which the state and companies take part together in the chain of satellite development, manufacturing and operation.

Placing multiple small satellites into orbit in a single launch also demonstrates that South Korea's capability to deploy satellite constellations is gradually maturing, laying the groundwork for domestic observation and communications systems in the years ahead.
