UEFA Super Cup: PSG vs Aston Villa – kickoff time, predictions and all you need to know

The 2026 UEFA Super Cup will see PSG – the Champions League winners – take on Aston Villa – the Europa League champions. The match is seen as a curtain-raiser for the new European season and kicks off at 19:00 GMT (2am Hanoi time on August 13) on Wednesday, August 12.

The Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, with a capacity of 30,000, will host the final. For UEFA matches, the stadium is referred to as Stadion Salzburg and is the usual home of RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Road to the match

PSG secured their place in the Super Cup after beating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties in the Champions League final in May, following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes. They became the first team to successfully defend the title since Real Madrid did so in 2016-2018.

Aston Villa ended a 30-year trophy drought with a 3-0 win over Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul. Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers gave Unai Emery's side their first title since the 1996 League Cup and their first European trophy in 44 years.

According to Polymarket, PSG are favourites with a 55% chance of winning in regular time, while the probability of a draw is 25% and an Aston Villa win is 22%.

The UEFA Super Cup was officially established in 1973, originally contested between the winners of the European Cup/Champions League and the Cup Winners Cup. After the Cup Winners Cup was abolished in 1999, the UEFA Cup (later renamed the Europa League) winners faced the Champions League winners.

Real Madrid are the most successful club in the competition with six titles. Barcelona and AC Milan have five each, and Liverpool have four. PSG are the defending champions after beating Tottenham 4-3 on penalties in last season's match (2-2 after 90 minutes).

The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports in the UK and CBC Sports in the US. If the score is level after 90 minutes, the teams will go straight to a penalty shootout, with no extra time. Somali referee Omar Artan will officiate the match, after being denied entry to the US for the World Cup.

Previous meetings

PSG and Aston Villa have met twice in the 2024-25 Champions League quarter-finals. PSG won 3-1 in the first leg at the Parc des Princes (April 9, 2025), while Aston Villa won 3-2 at home a week later, but PSG advanced 5-4 on aggregate.
