Tokyo's Haneda International Airport will expand its passenger terminal from September, adding a new satellite facility with six boarding gates, as air travel demand continues to rise.
Announced Tuesday, the satellite facility is designed to boost capacity for both international and domestic flights at one of Japan's busiest airports. The move is part of the government's long-term plan to strengthen aviation infrastructure amid a strong post-pandemic recovery in tourism and business travel.
Airlines operating at Haneda are expected to shift some operations to the new area, easing congestion in existing zones and improving the passenger experience. The expansion is also anticipated to facilitate smoother operations during peak hours, especially in high travel seasons.
Airport authorities said the new facility will enhance service capacity to meet the growing demand from domestic and international passengers. The infrastructure upgrade is also seen as preparation for major events and the sustainable growth of Japan's aviation industry in the coming years.
