Iran's military has been ordered to support the agencies organizing the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the head of state and the most powerful figure in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to a statement from the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, the military will coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure security, order, and infrastructure preparation for ceremonies expected to draw millions of participants.
This move comes amid reports that Ayatollah Khamenei, 84, has faced health issues in recent years. However, the leader has continued to appear publicly and maintain his political and religious activities.
Under Iranian law, upon the death of the Supreme Leader, an Assembly of Experts convenes to elect a successor. The funeral process is also strictly regulated, with the involvement of the military and security forces.
