Ahmed Wishah, a cameraman for Al Jazeera, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a home in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The incident occurred on April 12, 2026.
In a statement issued on April 12, Al Jazeera said it “strongly condemns the heinous crime targeting and killing” the journalist from Al Jazeera Mubasher. The statement added: “This is a new and flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, reflecting a systematic policy of continuously targeting journalists and silencing the voice of truth.”
At least 10 people were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza on April 12. Wishah’s brother, Mohammed, died on April 8, 2026, from Israeli shelling while traveling in a vehicle, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense. The following day, the Israeli military claimed, without providing evidence, that it had killed Mohammed because he was a “key terrorist in the rocket and weapons production headquarters of Hamas.”
According to data from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), at least 260 Palestinian journalists have been killed since Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza began in October 2023. The Gaza Health Ministry reported on April 12 that since the war began, 73,018 people have been killed and 173,273 wounded. Since a ceasefire was announced in October, Israeli attacks have killed 1,007 people and wounded 3,165 others.
