At least 13 people have died after a tourist plane crashed into a field in Peru, according to local authorities.
The Nazca city government said the aircraft was carrying tourists to view the Nazca Lines – a vast complex of geoglyphs etched into the surrounding desert centuries ago by Peru’s indigenous people. The figures, depicting animals, can only be fully appreciated from the air or from observation towers.
Nazca officials confirmed the plane took off from the nearby city of Ica and was operated by the Peruvian airline Aerodiana.
Peruvian authorities are now investigating the accident. A representative of Aerodiana has not yet commented.
