US President Donald Trump has commented on the declining influence of pro-Israel lobbying groups in Congress, in a pre-recorded interview with the America Speaks program on Real America's Voice (RAV), aired on Tuesday.
When host Wayne Allyn Root asked about the “communist color revolution” taking over America's largest cities, Trump responded that the biggest change he has witnessed over the past decade is “what is happening with Israel and the Jewish people.” He said: “If you look back 20, 25 years ago, they had the strongest lobby in Washington. Now everybody sees... if you look at the House... look at the Democrats in the House... it's really amazing. I have never seen anything like it.”
The remarks came after an AP-NORC poll showed support for Israel has noticeably declined in the US, with growing opposition from Democrats and signs of division among Republican voters.
This is not the first time Trump has acknowledged the erosion of support for Israel. In September 2025, in an interview with Daily Caller reporter Reagan Reese, he said he was aware of the drop in support for Israel among young Republicans, adding that strong congressional backing for Israel is a thing of the past.
In the 42-minute audio with RAV, Trump also criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer – the highest-ranking Jewish official in US history and a reliable pro-Israel voice: “Look at Schumer. He has almost become a Palestinian.”
Earlier, in March 2025, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that “Schumer is a Palestinian as far as I'm concerned,” and repeated the remark at the White House correspondents' dinner in July 2025. He criticized the Democratic senator for what he claimed was once “a hundred percent pro-Israel” stance.
Trump's derogatory statements at the time drew widespread condemnation from Jewish and Muslim groups, with many viewing them as using “Palestinian” as a political insult.
In March 2024, Schumer called for a change of leadership in Israel, describing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “too willing to tolerate civilian casualties in Gaza.” It was the strongest criticism of Israel by the Jewish senator since the Gaza war began in October 2023. Schumer has also voiced support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
More recently, Schumer criticized President Trump's handling of the US-Israel war with Iran, saying the “repetitive approach... is not a strategy” but “a recipe for disaster,” adding: “we keep backing off... it's unbelievable that this war is a complete failure.”
