Bayern Munich were held to a 3-3 draw by Viking in the Champions League on Tuesday, as the Norwegian champions salvaged a late equaliser through Herman Haugen's header after Michael Olise was sent off.
The German side fell 2-0 behind at half-time through goals from Gianni Stensness and Peter Christiansen. Harry Kane looked to have dragged Bayern to victory with two goals and an assist that put the visitors 3-2 ahead, but Olise picked up a second yellow card in under a minute for dissent after throwing the ball into an opponent's face.
With the man advantage, Viking capitalised and Haugen scored in the final minute to secure a shock draw for the Norwegian side against Bayern.
Olise's red card means the French winger will miss next week's blockbuster clash with Arsenal in Munich.
"It's our fault," coach Vincent Kompany told reporters. "This red card is just too silly... He understands his mistake and regrets putting the team at a disadvantage."
Kane scored in his ninth consecutive Champions League match, equalling Robert Lewandowski's club record and moving within two of Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 11.
"Our first half was very poor. We started the second half well and fought to get back into it. But the red card changed everything," Kane told Amazon Prime. "Olise will be heartbroken and has to take responsibility. It's a mistake, and mistakes happen. He has to learn from it. It's a shame because we have a lot of important games ahead."
Just days after conceding the fastest goal in Bundesliga history in a 2-2 draw at Augsburg on Saturday, Bayern again fell behind early.
Only 72 seconds after kick-off, Stensness headed in from a corner to open the scoring for the hosts. Bayern increased the pressure but could not break through the defence, with Kane twice heading the ball into the hands of Viking goalkeeper Arild Ostbo.
Refusing to sit back and absorb pressure while clinging to their slender lead, Viking launched a lightning counter-attack and doubled their advantage in the 38th minute. Top scorer Christiansen finished off a slick move to make it 2-0 to Viking.
Bayern were awarded a penalty immediately after the break when Konrad Laimer was fouled in the box. With a stuttering run-up, the 33-year-old Kane placed the ball into the bottom right corner, beyond Ostbo's fingertips.
On 60 minutes, Kane escaped his marker and headed in Joshua Kimmich's cross to level the score. Luis Diaz had a goal ruled out for offside just a minute later, but the Colombian benefited from a clever Kane pass 10 minutes after that.
Kane threaded the ball to Laimer, whose blocked shot fell perfectly for Diaz. The England captain appeared to have rescued Bayern, until Olise was sent off.
The French winger was booked for a foul, then received a second yellow for throwing the ball directly into Viking captain Zlatko Tripic's face right in front of the referee, leaving Bayern a man down for the final 16 minutes.
Viking pushed forward and Haugen headed into the net at the far post in the 90th minute, earning a memorable draw for the hosts.
