Nishikori Advances in U.S. Open Qualifying with Win Over Ofner

Former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori of Japan, who is nearing retirement, advanced to the second round of U.S. Open qualifying with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Austria's Sebastian Ofner on Tuesday.

Nishikori, 36, is seeking a spot in what could be the final Grand Slam of his career. He started strongly, breaking early and taking the first set comfortably, but Ofner regained his composure to level the match in the second set.

However, Nishikori showed his trademark grit and experience to seal the decisive set, completing a successful comeback. With this result, the Japanese player earned a place in the second qualifying round, where he will continue his bid to feature in this year's U.S. Open.
