Japan Releases 9 Crested Ibises into the Wild, Second Time on Main Island of Honshu

On September 29, Japan released nine crested ibises into the wild in the central part of the country. It was the second release on the main island of Honshu, continuing efforts to increase the numbers of the endangered bird.

According to Kyodo News, the event took place as Japan steps up conservation and reintroduction measures for the crested ibis, a bird once regarded as a symbol of the country but which faced the threat of extinction.

The release of the nine birds is expected to help expand the wild crested ibis population, following the first release on Honshu.
