Japan to Raise Single-Entry Visa Fee to 15,000 Yen Starting July

The Japanese government announced on June 13 that it will raise the single-entry visa fee for foreigners from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen (approximately $90), effective July 2025. The fivefold increase marks the first adjustment since 1978.

According to the announcement, the decision was made amid inflation and the yen's depreciation, prompting the government to revise administrative costs related to visa processing. The current fee of 3,000 yen had remained unchanged for 47 years.

The move is expected to affect a large number of foreign tourists and workers seeking entry to Japan, especially as the country strives to attract international visitors following the COVID-19 pandemic.
