Kyodo News reported that from July 2026, Japan will officially raise visa fees for foreign nationals to 15,000 yen, five times the current rate. This is part of a broader adjustment of administrative service fees aimed at increasing national budget revenue.
Previously, visa application fees for entry into Japan typically ranged around 3,000 yen (approximately 500,000 Vietnamese dong), depending on nationality and visa type. Under the new rate, foreign applicants will pay 15,000 yen (about 2.5 million Vietnamese dong) per visa application starting July 2026.
The move comes as Japan continues efforts to revive tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic while tightening entry controls. However, experts suggest the fee hike may affect the number of foreign tourists and workers coming to Japan in the short term.
