Japan Bolsters Monitoring After Chinese Aircraft Carrier Operates Nearby

TOKYO — Japan's defense minister said on October 9 that the country will strengthen surveillance operations after a Chinese aircraft carrier sailed through waters near Japan, according to Kyodo News.

Speaking at a news conference, the minister said the Japan Self-Defense Forces will maintain a high state of alert and closely track the carrier's next moves.

The remarks come as Japan keeps a close watch on Chinese military activity in the waters and airspace around the Japanese archipelago.
