On March 23, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, during which Araghchi stressed the need for unity and a focus on the threat posed by Lebanon's 'real enemy'.
According to a statement from Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Araghchi argued that Lebanon must defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against external plots, particularly from Israel—a country Iran views as the primary threat to the region.
The phone conversation took place as Lebanon faces numerous challenges, including economic and political crises. President Aoun, who took office in early 2025, is working to form a government and stabilize the country.
Iran is a key ally of Hezbollah, a powerful political and military force in Lebanon. However, this relationship is often criticized by Western nations, especially the United States and Israel, who accuse Iran of interfering in Lebanon's internal affairs.
