The United States carried out fresh airstrikes near Iran's Bandar Abbas port, striking what it described as military threats to US forces and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports. Iranian state media said the explosions did not cause casualties or property damage.
The latest developments come amid rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping route that has become a major flashpoint in negotiations and confrontations between Iran and the United States.
In Iran: Iranian state media reported explosions near Bandar Abbas port and the Strait of Hormuz for the second time since Tuesday, as tensions escalated. State television reiterated accusations by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that the US had violated the ceasefire, international law, and maritime law. Iran's Tasnim news agency, citing a military source, said IRGC Navy fired on a US tanker that allegedly crossed the Strait of Hormuz with its radar off. US forces then retaliated by firing near Bandar Abbas, and the explosions caused no casualties or material damage.
War diplomacy: US President Donald Trump declared that Iran would receive no sanctions relief under any agreement and stressed Tehran must surrender its enriched uranium stockpiles, despite Iran's repeated rejection of these demands. The US Treasury added Iran's Strait of Hormuz Management Authority to its sanctions list, targeting the body set up by Tehran to manage shipping requirements through the strait.
In the Gulf: Kuwait's military said its air defense systems intercepted “hostile” missiles and drones as sirens sounded across the country. Authorities urged residents to follow safety guidelines, adding that the sounds of explosions came from interceptor systems.
In the US: President Trump said he wanted a “great deal” with Iran and warned the US would withdraw from any agreement that did not serve its interests. Trump also threatened to use force against Oman if it cooperated with Iran to control the Strait of Hormuz, stating “nobody can control it.”
In Lebanon and Gaza: The Israeli military ordered residents of areas in the city of Tyre and Zaqqoq al-Mufdi in southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately north of the Zahrani River, about 40 km from the Israeli border. Hezbollah said it had carried out dozens of attacks targeting Israeli soldiers, tanks, engineering vehicles, and military positions across southern Lebanon and northern Israel. Dozens of Palestinians marched through Gaza City carrying the body of Hamas armed wing commander Mohammad Odeh, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike Tuesday evening, about a week after Israel killed his predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad.
