Russian airstrikes on eastern Ukraine overnight killed at least six people, according to local authorities, while Moscow reported shooting down 605 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and the annexed Crimea peninsula.
In the town of Balakliya in Kharkiv region, rescue teams worked through August 6 to extinguish fires and clear debris after Russian strikes on residential areas killed three people. Vitalii Karabanov, head of the military administration of this front-line city, said the victims included two women and one man.
In the northern Sumy region, three others were killed in overnight attacks and at least 19 more were injured, including 12 wounded in the city of Sumy after a guided bomb attack, according to Ukrainian police.
Additionally, two people were injured in a Russian attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to regional military administration head Oleksandr Ganzha. In the southern Kherson region, a drone strike on a truck injured six people.
In the Black Sea area, a Russian attack damaged a foreign-flagged wheat carrier, killing a sailor and sparking a fire, according to Oleh Kiper, governor of Odesa region. Ukraine's maritime port authority confirmed that the Guinea-Bissau-flagged ship Mera Queen was hit on the night of August 5.
Over the past month, Russia has intensified efforts to disrupt Ukraine's trade and export routes, launching nearly daily attacks on its Black Sea ports.
Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 605 Ukrainian drones overnight. Local authorities said a logistics hub of the e-commerce giant Wildberries was slightly damaged. The incident came days after another Wildberries warehouse in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow, was attacked by drones. Since July 18, at least 20 of the company's warehouses have been targeted. Kyiv accuses Russia's largest online retailer of playing a key role in Moscow's war effort by supplying dual-use items that can be used for military purposes.
