The United States and Iran are reportedly nearing a one-page memorandum to end regional conflict. However, Israeli strikes in Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria continue to cause casualties and escalate tensions.
The United States and Iran are moving closer to a one-page memorandum to end warfare in the region, according to multiple reports. Meanwhile, developments in Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria remain tense.
Israeli strikes on Lebanon have raised fears that the current ceasefire could collapse. Lebanese officials said at least 16 people were killed in Israeli strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon on Wednesday.
An Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Wednesday killed a senior commander of Hezbollah’s elite forces, a source close to the group said. The attack on the Lebanese capital was the first since the ceasefire agreement began in April.
Hezbollah said its fighters launched 17 attacks against Israeli forces operating inside Lebanon on Wednesday. Iran officially denied any involvement in the explosion of a South Korean cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week. US President Donald Trump previously claimed that the US had “fired some shots” at the vessel, urging South Korea to join Washington’s operations in those waters.
Shelling and Israeli attacks in Gaza have escalated, with a recent strike in Gaza City killing at least one Palestinian and seriously wounding the son of Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya along with several others.
Israeli forces also carried out a raid in the western countryside of Daraa province in southern Syria late Wednesday, according to the Syrian state news agency SANA.
