Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala said he is facing a neurological issue but remains stable, after collapsing during a friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday, three days after a similar incident against Leipzig.
The 23-year-old German fell shortly after coming on as a substitute in the second half of Tuesday's match. Players from both teams surrounded Musiala as he received medical treatment. He was then assisted off the pitch while still appearing dazed.
Earlier, on Saturday, Musiala also collapsed during a friendly against Leipzig. German news agency DPA reported that he left the pitch on his own but still seemed dazed.
After Tuesday's match, Musiala posted a message on his Instagram account, explaining that he has been diagnosed with temporary "absence seizures" that are "easy to treat," caused by a neurological issue.
"These can lead to the moments we've just seen, like against Leipzig or even in Heidenheim," Musiala wrote.
In its report on Tuesday's match, Bayern only briefly mentioned: "There was an incident that forced Jamal Musiala to leave the pitch injured just minutes after coming on."
Musiala said he is "very optimistic" and is receiving excellent medical care.
"The important thing is that there are no further health risks," he wrote.
"With close coordination and regular exchange with specialists, I look forward to facing this challenge, and with the consensus of neurological experts, I will focus on what helps me recover best: simply living my daily life and pursuing my passion for playing football," Musiala added.
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in the German Super Cup, the traditional season opener.
