The Kurdistan Region Security Council in Iraq confirmed that the office of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) premier and the residence of the head of the semi-autonomous region's intelligence and security agency were attacked by drones in the early hours of Monday. No casualties were reported.
The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service quoted a security council statement saying the attacks were carried out from Iranian territory using two Hadid-110 drones, targeting the private office of the KRG premier and the residence of the Director of Security. The statement confirmed no casualties but did not specify whether the drones hit their targets.
On social media platform X, KRG Premier Masrour Barzani condemned the attack as “illegal and unacceptable.” He emphasized: “This is a dangerous step and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region.”
Iran and Iran-backed armed groups have long accused Iraq's Kurdistan region of harboring Iranian Kurdish opposition groups that Tehran views as a security threat. Meanwhile, the Kurdish authorities in Iraq have denied such allegations, insisting they do not allow their territory to be used to threaten neighboring countries.
