On April 12, at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Uzbekistan, Iranian lifter Yousefi won a gold medal and broke the world record in the men's 81kg snatch. With a lift of 185 kg, he surpassed the previous record of 184 kg held by a Chinese athlete.
In the clean and jerk, although he did not set a new record, Yousefi achieved a total of 368 kg, far exceeding his competitors to secure the gold medal. This is the first time an Iranian lifter has won gold in this weight category since 2018.
Speaking after his victory, Yousefi said, 'I am very happy to have achieved this. I have trained very hard and hope this result will help me qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.'
The 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships took place from April 8 to 15, featuring over 200 athletes from 30 countries. This event is crucial for lifters to earn Olympic qualification points and gain experience ahead of the Games.
