The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have initiated a series of large-scale military operations in several areas of the West Bank, including the cities of Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarem, and Hebron. This is seen as one of the largest crackdowns in months, targeting armed militants and their infrastructure.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 10 people have been killed in the clashes, including several gunmen and civilians. Dozens of others were wounded and more than 60 were detained. The Israeli military confirmed the raids, stating that they seized weapons, destroyed explosive-making workshops, and arrested suspects overnight.
An IDF spokesperson said these operations are part of efforts to dismantle terrorist networks active in the area, while also accusing Iran of providing funding and training to armed groups in the West Bank. In response, the Palestinian Authority condemned the campaign as a "dangerous escalation" and called on the international community to intervene.
The clashes have spread as Palestinian protesters hurled stones and firebombs at Israeli soldiers, who used tear gas and live fire to disperse crowds. In Jenin, intense gun battles between troops and militants lasted for hours, causing damage to civilian infrastructure.
This is not the first time Israel has conducted large-scale crackdowns in the West Bank, but the current scale and intensity indicate a more complex security situation. Analysts suggest this operation could heighten regional tensions and weaken already stalled diplomatic efforts.
The United Nations and numerous human rights organizations have expressed deep concern over the situation, urging both sides to show restraint and protect civilians. Meanwhile, the United States, a close ally of Israel, has urged Tel Aviv to take necessary measures to avoid harming innocent people.
